Ambassador Program:  We are here to help
Ever wonder what we do at the Senior Center?  Would you come to the Senior Center activities if you had someone to come with?  Would you like a visitor or an occasional phone call?

Our Ambassador Program is just what you may be looking for.  Ambassadors are ready to help you find answers to your questions, meet you at the Center, or give you a call to see how you're doing.  They have the 'gift of gab', have great connections to services and know everything about what you can find at the Senior Center.  Call 844-5352 to get connected.

SPECIAL EVENTS:
Changes in Medicare 2010~Thursday, November 5 at 10:30 a.m.
Learn all you can about Medicare, Medicaid and long term care options at this seminar.  Find out what is covered in the plans and what you can do to ensure you have the coverage you need.  Presented by Maggie Foschini of Great American Benefits.  Call 844-5352 to register.  No cost.

Thanksgiving Luncheon~Firday, November 20 at 12:00 p.m.
Each year we express our thankfulness for our members and friends by serving a traditional Thanksgiving feast: turkey with all the trimmings!  Cost $6.

Hearing Screenings: Tuesday, November 17 at 10:30 a.m.
Do you ask to have thingsrepeated?  Is it difficult to hear in a crowd?  Have your hearing (or hearing aid) checked.  Call 844-5352 to register.

Foot care clinic and ear irrigation will be offered from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.  For foot care and and ear irrigation appointments (fee applies), call 653-5514.  For van transportation, call the Senior Center at 844-5353 by noon the previous Monday.

VNA Foot Care Clinic:  Wednesday, November 18
Foot care clinic from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Senior Center.  Call 653-5514 for an appointment.

VNA Health Clinic Blood Pressure Clinic:  Offered again in January
The nurses will be available to check your blood pressure.  Be sure to stop by.

Chair Massage:  Tuesday, November 3 and November 17 from 10:00 - noon by appointment  Provided by Bev Harris of Back in Touch.  15-minute chair massage.  For an appointment, call 844-5852.  Cost $10.

Adventures in Living:  Mondays, through November 23 at 3:00 p.m.
Join this lively group of adults and pre-teens as we explore the similarities and differences of our ages.  Fun activities, creative snacks and plenty of engaging dialog.  You'll love it just as much as the kids!

Mind Sharpener Program: Tuesdays & Fridays at 1:00 p.m. beginning October 20
Have you ever complained about becoming forgetful?  Do you feel that your mind could use a little exercise?  This proven program will help you gain cognitive prowess.  Call 844-5352 to learn more and reserve a spot in the upcoming class.

Grandparents Support Group with Ingrid Helander, LMFT, Youth Service Counselor:  Thursdays from noon to 1:00 p.m.
This group is for grandparents who find themselves helping to raise children for the second or third time.   Bring a bag lunch and join others like yourself to share friendships, ideas and tips on being a parent again.  Call 844-5355 for additional information.

HELPING HANDS:

07172007_15634_0.pngChecks and Balances -  Aurelle Locke, retired tax attorney, will assist you in balancing your checkbook at the Senior Center.  Call 844-5352 to make an appointment.

Handicapped Parking Permits - Available in the office.  Form must be signed by a physician and returned to DMV.


Meals on Wheels - McLean Home provides meals for ill, homebound, or disabled persons.  Delivered by volunteers 5 days a week.  Call 653-3700.

TAP (Transportation Action Program) - This volunteer service provides rides for medical appointments.  TAP Line:  844-8859  Leave a message on voice mail.

CHOICES:
"One-stop shopping" information source for services available to older adults.   CHOICES provides information and assistance about Medicare and other related health insurance options including:  Original Medicare, Medicare Rx, Medicare Supplement Insurance, Medicaid, Medicare Managed Care, Prescription Drug Coverage and Long-Term Care Insurance.  Please call the CHOICES Hotline at 1-800-994-9422.

The Senior Club will hold its second annual Craft Fair at the Senior Center on Vendors such as Pampered Chef, Silpada, and many more will provide a variety of items for your early holiday shopping needs.

AT THE CENTER:

Come out and play with Wii:  Bowling
Yes, you can enjoy bowling in the winter months.  It's a virtual playground!  Come for Wii on Wednesdays at 1:00 p.m.

Bingo:  Every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month at 12:30 p.m.  

Monday Morning Coffee:  Mondays from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.  Drop in for a cup of coffee and friendly banter.  It is the place to get the latest on Granby happenings!

Artists Group:  Wednesdays from 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.  Do you have an interest in watercolors, drawing or painting?  Bring your materials and join artists during this friendly gathering.   Ideas and techniques are shared.



Knitting at Night:  Wednesdays from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. (Resumes in September)
Knit, chat and learn from your peers.

Needleworkers: Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 pm.  Knitting, cross stitching, crewel work and other needlework projects are worked on during this friendly gathering.   Enjoy a cup of coffee as you work on your latest project.

Mexican Train:  A domino game:  Mondays at 10:00 a.m.
It's easy to learn and fun to play!


Community Cafe:  The Community Renewal Team (CRT) provides meals on Tuesdays and Thursdays at noon at the Senior Center.  Suggested donation is $2. Call 844-5350 by noon on Friday to sign up for the following week.

Stamping Greeting Cards:   Thursday, November 12 at 9:30 a.m.   Come and create original cards using rubber stamps.  It's fun and requires no special skills! Space is limited.  Cost  $4.


Art is Ageless:  All You need to Bead:  Fridays at 9:30 a.m. beginning October 16
Anne Dixon will teach students techniques in bead stitching.  The finished pieces are true wearable art.  Cost:  $50 for the 8-week course.

Setback:  Mondays at 1:00 p.m.  Come join in on a fun card game with good company. FREE.
